Crunchyroll series page redesign walkthrough

I directed the product roadmap for the series page redesign, shaping it into the definitive resource for a brand or series and pushing for the highest-impact changes to guide users confidently toward their next fandom.

Choose Confidently

Put the show in its best light, so it's immediately clear whether this is something you want to watch.

Cultivate Fandom

Turn a single series page into part of a larger, holistic fan experience, not just a dead-end after the trailer.

Celebrate IP

Give the licensed brand and its world the presentation it deserves, rather than treating every title identically.

The Idea: An Evolving Page

I defined dynamic content modules that allowed for the page structure to evolve based on a fan's progress through the series.

Anime is unique in that a single season can move through distinct arcs and major events, so rather than one static layout, the information architecture itself would shift to match where the fan and the show currently stand. The four layouts show that evolution: before starting, midway through, between seasons, and after completing the series.

Key Considerations

Beauty & Clarity

Make the page beautiful and compelling, so the show is presented at its best and the watch/don't-watch decision is easy.

Usability

Improve organization and focus: episode selection, information hierarchy, action hierarchy, and reducing overall clutter.

Platform Divergence

Question how the page should differ across platforms. Does a one-size-fits-all responsive layout serve desktop, tablet, and mobile equally well, or does it need to diverge?

The Flywheel

Incorporate more of the broader fan flywheel, a holistic experience that's additive to streaming and actively grows fandom, rather than sitting apart from it.

Lifecycle Awareness

Design for where both the user and the show are in their lifecycle: a brand-new viewer discovering a completed series needs something different than a long-time fan following a simulcast week to week.

This project is currently on the roadmap for late 2026–2027.

Multiple rounds of user testing proved that fans leaned positively toward the dynamic content experience, increasing delight and engagement with the content as it changed based on their behaviour.
